World Health Club Corporate Lifestyle Counseling

DID YOU KNOW? Many corporate health plans will cover Lifestyle Counseling services, usually in the $300 - $1000 per year range. Please check with your Alberta Blue Cross, your extended health care plan, or other private insurance provider for details.

Many people do not feel that they have the time to exercise, eat properly or get proper sleep. As we get older, it is even more important that we exercise since inactivity is associated with a variety of diseases such cancer, cardiac disorders, arteriolosclerosis, hypertension, late-onset diabetes and elevated cholesterol & triglycerides. Sedentary people are twice as likely to get a variety of diseases, with similar risks to a person who smokes a pack of cigarettes per day! With age we tend to lose strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, coordination and our ability to move, easily leading to being less functional in our daily lives. Studies indicate that exercise strengthens the heart, bones and muscles, and tends to lead to a more positive view of oneself and one’s outlook on life. Fitness is as essential to our health as eating and sleeping.

Through Lifestyle Counseling, it is my role to help people overcome rationalizations regarding exercise and nutrition so that they are able to integrate practical changes within their lives.  I help people develop a plan for exercise, guide them with nutritional principles and do formal fitness and needs assessments to help people lead a healthier and active lifestyle. With a client-centered approach, fitness can be fun and integrated within our busy lives - if we make it a priority. Without disciplining our minds, however, we will not be able to motivate ourselves or reach our goals.  An increased level of self-awareness is necessary to have healthier behaviors resulting from our core beliefs and attitudes.

I am a Chartered Psychologist and Certified Life Coach with several years of counseling experience helping clients to strategize, plan, and attain both short and long-term goals. I believe that counselors needs to be more proactive, dealing with stress and health issues before they arise.

Having struggled with a variety of injuries myself, I have gained strong relationships with some of the best rehabilitation professionals in Calgary to help clients with injuries, muscle imbalances or other physical barriers that can prevent safe exercise. I also work with a registered dietitian to maximize results.

I am also a Certified Life Coach and Personal Trainer Specialist. I have completed Twist Conditioning Sport Movement Specialist Level II, Sport Balance Specialist Level 1, and have taken coursework including Nutrition & Exercise, Nutrition & Sport, Fitness Assessment, Advanced Cardiovascular Training, Functional Fitness, Strength Ball Training, Bosu Strength & Sport Conditioning, DSL (Dynamic Stabilizing Load) Training, Strength Training Foundations, Core Training, Flexibility and Working with Diabetic, Cancer and High Blood Pressure patients.
